Apple and Google both require a privacy policy URL before an app is listed, and that URL almost always points to the app's marketing website. The website itself collects data that the policy must cover. App landing pages commonly run Meta Pixel and TikTok Pixel to measure install campaigns, Google Ads conversion tracking, and Google Analytics. Waitlist and newsletter forms feed Mailchimp or Klaviyo, and Intercom or Crisp chat identifies visitors who ask pre-sales questions. The app is a separate matter. In-app SDKs for analytics, crash reporting, attribution and advertising collect device identifiers, and Apple's privacy nutrition labels and Google's Data Safety section must match what the policy says. Do app stores require a privacy policy?
Yes. Apple's App Store Review Guidelines require a privacy policy link in App Store Connect and inside the app for every submission, and Google Play requires a privacy policy URL in the Play Console for all apps. Both expect the policy to describe the data the app and its third-party SDKs collect. VerifiedPrivacy produces a hosted-ready HTML policy you can publish at a stable URL on your website.
Does the scan detect SDKs inside my app?
No. The scanner reads your public website, so it finds web services such as Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Google Analytics, Mailchimp and Intercom on your landing pages. It cannot inspect a compiled app binary. Review your app's SDK list, for example Firebase, AppsFlyer or ad networks, and add those disclosures to the generated policy with your attorney so the document matches your App Store and Play Store data labels.
Can I host the generated policy at the URL I give Apple and Google?
Yes. Download the HTML version, publish it at a permanent path on your website such as yourapp.com/privacy, and enter that URL in App Store Connect and the Play Console. Keep the URL stable, since changing it requires updating both listings. When your data practices change, edit your answers, regenerate from your permanent link and republish at the same address.
My app is for kids. Does this cover COPPA?
Not fully. Apps directed at children under 13 in the US fall under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, which requires verifiable parental consent and specific notice content that this clause library does not attempt to cover. If you answer yes to the under-13 question, the preview shows a warning and the coverage score reflects it. Consult an attorney experienced with COPPA and the app stores' kids categories.
